The Making Of "Pinnington"
Pinnington
Concept
A work commissioned by Daniel and Trevor Pinnington of Kalamunda for their new offices in the Town of Vincent. Johannes chose to design an artwork of an abstract nature and stand alone piece to compliment the strikingly bright orange facade of the 3 storey development in Summers Street.
I believe you have to pay attention to how you feel intuitively at a site. With this work I felt I needed to work with the smooth plane curve, intertwined to create an artwork that flowed gracefully but was as vertical as possible. The draft maquette originally only featured one element before I put it aside and concentrated on another shape with an idea of wrapping the corner of the building. This looked great but would have required extra engineering and costs to the building. It was then I picked up the original element, put it together with the new piece and they were a perfect fit creating an ideal work which seems to have relevance to the nearby river and its wildlife.
It stands 5m (including pedestal) and is made of 3mm marine grade structural aluminium, brush finished and wax coated
